Ghent, Belgium & Merrimack NH, USA, January 19, 2009 – Bricsys announces that the first group of professional CAD applications has been successfully ported from AutoCAD® to Bricscad V9. The initial group consists of thirty-four applications in the primary engineering domains of AEC, mechanical design, civil engineering, and GIS. Bricsys expects to add another one hundred applications within six months.
Application developers worldwide are showing a growing interest in BRX, an indication that Bricscad V9 is becoming recognized as a powerful alternative to DWG-based applications. The broad range of applications available for Bricscad is a key element for the future growth of Bricsys.
APIs in Bricscad V9
Bricscad V9 contains a complete set of DWG-compatible APIs, including LISP, COM, SDS, and BRX. APIs are application-programming interfaces that allow CAD programs to carry out specialized operations for specific disciplines. LISP is the popular list processing programming language; COM is Microsoft's common object model; SDS is the software development system for C-based programs; and BRX is the Bricsys runtime extension for programs written in C++.
The APIs provided by Bricsys allow professional developers and end-users to port their extensions and applications from AutoCAD to Bricscad V9 without modifying the source code; only a recompile is required. Where needed, the Bricsys development team provides direct support free of charge.
The availability of a second CAD platform that supports the same applications as AutoCAD offers real choice to end-users and application developers alike. Both end-users and application developers also benefit from reduced costs. Bricscad reduces the cost of the CAD platform component by about 90%, even as all application features are kept intact. In times of economic pressure, this is an important element in the budgets of all companies.
The New eStore from Bricsys
In February 2009, Bricsys will unveil its new Bricscad Application eStore. The store will be a one-stop shopping center for Bricscad users. In collaboration with application developers, Bricsys will extend its online support service to all Bricscad applications.
In the meantime, Bricsys is providing a rich and varied portfolio of regional and international applications that run on Bricscad. The Bricsys website at www.bricsys.com/common/applications provides detailed information on every application, with all presented uniformly. Most applications can be downloaded free of charge as trial versions.
